In 2016 the Kansas Governor designated Kansas Auto Racing Museum, a 501(c)(3) facility as the official Kansas Racing Team to participate in the Super Cup Series for 2016 and beyond. The Kansas Auto Racing Museum has teamed with Jeremy Petty of JPI of Smolan, Kansas to develop a former Jack Roush NASCAR Cup car for competition in the Super Cup Racing Series. Jeremy Petty is an experienced ARCA driver with experience in the NASCAR Truck Series. Not only is Jeremy recognized as an excellent racecar driver, he is also well known as a top crew chief, fabricator and designer.
Here is what makes the Kansas Racing Team unique. The Kansas Auto Racing Museum and JPI are developing the Kansas Racing Team in cooperation with CHAPMAN HIGH SCHOOL (USD #473). The high school Auto Mechanics Class students physically work on the racecar under the guidance of Instructor Alex Jost, former racecar driver Doug Thompson and current racecar driver Jeremy Petty to build the Super Cup racecar for competition. Not only does the auto mechanics students work on the car but the Journalism Department under the direction of Instructor Jodi DeArmond has developed marketing material to promote the team. You are reading the results of the marketing efforts of Chapman High School students. Not only does the Journalism Department develop marketing material but also press releases, stories promoting the team, its development and the sponsors who are making it all possible. The high school Video Production team under the direction of Instructor Shasta Acheson assists in the production of a 30 minute weekly television show to be broadcast across the Eagle Communications System and an internet broadcast called, “The Kansas Racing Team”.
Needless to say this is a fantastic opportunity for high school students to have hands on, real life marketing of a racecar team. What a cool idea. What a cool project for students attending Chapman High School to be involved in. Not only are we physically helping to build a race team, we are physically helping to promote it, develop it, market it and let the rest of the world know about the great accomplishments of Chapman High School and its students. Think back about your own high school days, how much fun would it have been to be involved in the development of the Kansas Racing Team. The racecar we are helping to build will be entered in competition beginning in late Spring 2017. The team will race primarily short track, asphalt tracks in the Super Cup Series. The team will also promote the racecar, its team and sponsors on television and internet. The amount of exposure for any sponsor is fantastic. What a neat opportunity for high school kids from Chapman High School to go into college with a resume for the successful development of the Kansas Racing Team
